My Strength-My World

Sometimes you can’t help feeling life is filled up with nothing but obstacles. When trouble begins to find you in a row, you can’t help letting your self down. That’s where you need some friendly company to discuss all your problems with, to encourage you to face the real life, to advice you on how to tackle the matters practically. In facing problems in real life my dad is my strength.
For me he’s everything. He’s my hero, my advisor, my friend and also my loving dad. Like other ordinary Asian fathers he’s strict, dominant and bad tempered (He gets pissed off under certain circumstances, not always though). But that’s only when I observe him as an ordinary father. There're plenty of interesting things about him. The first thing he’s a great cook! What’s so amazing about that?” you may ask me. Well it may not be surprising, but what fascinates me is his way of cooking. His style of cooking won’t be found in any cookery books. He’s an independent specialist in Chinese food and many other foods that still haven’t been even named. At times his cooking is tastier than mom’s (Hope she won’t be angry when she sees this!).But the thing is, just like Dr.DoLittle he ruins the whole kitchen during work and I have to rush for his rescue to put things back in place before mom drops in to witness the havoc. He loves gardening but barely gets involved 'due to lack of time' as he says. But the truth is mom’s having control of everything regarding the subject and has forbidden dad to do anything ’creative’ as she strongly believes dad’s artistic stuff messes the garden’s beauty. Anyway he doesn’t mind doing heavy work like pruning the hedges and maintaining the grassy lawn at mom’s favor. Another funny thing is that he’s a good tailor. When I was a kid he prepared most of my dresses. Still he chooses skirts and blouses for me whenever we do shopping together. Also he’s a talented artist and an admirer of great art works. He was my art teacher, who taught me about colors, shades and many other things which I never found in my text books. The best gift he had presented me is the artistic approach. He is better than any other critic. Dad and I love to do window shopping. While walking down the streets we gaze at pictures, ornaments and things like that and talk about them. If it’s a painting he’d talk about its features, the colors, the artist’s talent and things he could have done to improve the quality. It’s real fun hanging around with my dad. He gets angry, but not always. Most of the time he’s live, cheerful and merry. His anger can create a greater effect on me. That’s because mom’s always complaining and scolding me even about very small things. Dad’s anger erupts once in a blue moon and disappears into the thin air in quite a while and in a few minutes he won’t remember what he was scolding me for. when I was doing my advanced levels in school I got very low marks for Chemistry in the term test. I was very upset as all my mates received marks with flying colors. When I got home I started crying saying ”I can’t take it any longer, I want to quit.” Mom and dad both comforted me as any other parent would do to tackle the situation. Still worried though I prepared myself to go for my tuition class later that evening. I was frightened that the tuition teacher might be mad at me when she hears my marks. Turning the whole situation up side down she summoned me and kept advising on the ways to improve my knowledge on the related subject. Later I learnt that my dad had visited the teacher just before I arrived and explained the situation saying I was down and needed some friendly advice. I was overjoyed from this lovely surprise and decided to do my best in the exam which I succeeded with my dad's love, care and strength. In a circumstance as such, an ordinary father would also comfort their kid, but my dad was a step ahead.
I can write some more about him but I don’t want this to be another boring blog. I would only mention one more characteristic of him. Being mysterious. This happened when mom was pregnant. She was doing some shopping when a lovely pair of bangles caught her eye. She asked dad”Will you buy that for me?” His answer was surprising as well as annoying.” If our baby is a boy I will buy them both for you. If its a girl you’ll only have one.” I was born few months later and he bought mom just one bangle as promised. When I heard the story I thought he preferred a son than a daughter. I was wrong till my 18th birthday on which he presented me a gold bangle similar to the one mom wore with great affection. He had bought the whole pair when I was born but had secretly kept the other bangle till his little girl grew old enough to wear.
My dad is my world.

My Fascination!

92 chains of poly nucleotides can determine the output of a human, the appearance, character and almost everything about a person.Don't you think it's fascinating? Well I do!
A living organism, to be precise let's say a human is made out of trillions of macro-molecules. But if you convert the theory by putting together some random collection of molecules as such you won't be able to create a human not even a bacteria.
Among the most interesting molecules that exist I am fascinated by DNA, the building block of life. Throughout the history experiments regarding the subject has lead many towards award winning inventions of the century. When comparing my self with the giants of this field I'm just an ant. Yet the little I know has inspired me to a greater extend.

WHAT'S SO SURPRISING ABOUT DNA?You may ask me. I would definitely stammer thinking what to tell you. Let me just tell you three simple basic factors.
1.)All body cells (except for the ones that doesn't have a nucleus eg:-red blood cells) have the same 46 inherited chromosomes. Though they are genetically identical a nerve is completely different from WBCs from both function and appearance.
2.)The whole genome can be divided into two categories; coding DNA and non-coding DNA. Coding DNA is what we call the genes. The fascinating thing is related to the number of genes. The human genome contains 3 billion nucleotides, making itself 25 times larger than any other single genome studied. But we only have approximately 26,000 genes. That's twice as the genes of a nematode or a fruit fly.
3.)human genome is 99.9% identical. The remaining 0.1% generates 1.4 million differences between individuals.

What am I so fascinated of? Is it genetics? Not really. Day by day many new factors are revealed still leaving many more mysteries to be solved. We discover things saying its science, but halfway through we forget its all about nature. According to my aspect mother nature is a mystery. Genetics is just the point of view of my interest. For you it might be something else. It doesn't matter because in general nature is our fascination.
